to be saying that. let's bring in now senator richard blumenthal, democrat from connecticut. we were just listening together, senator, to harry reid. we are hearing that he is working on another way. what are you hearing? >> well, what i'm hearing is exactly what he just said on the floor of the united states senate, which is our common ground as a nation is to extend tax cuts for everyone with the threshold income of 200,000. that means tax cut extensions up to 250,000, so the vast majority of americans see a benefit. keeping faith with the middle class of america is common ground among democrats and republicans. what is needed now is a compromise that permits the house to go forward. >> so, senator, is senator harry reid working on a different possibility, a different bill than what was just mentioned, the 250,000 that you were also reiterating? >> the majority leader will have to speak for himself on what his negotiations are, but i think from where the end game is in the short term, avoiding the fiscal cliff, everybody agrees has to happen. let's put aside the brings manship and games

the victims of the shooting in newtown, connecticut. what are your thoughts about this tragedy? >> you know, time magazine is calling it the massacre of innocence. that actually is a phrase from the first christmas where herod killed baby boys under two at christmas time and it is tragic that this is happening at christmas time. i think with the two sandies, sandy hook and sandy hurricane we really need the christmas spirit right now. the deeper the pain, the deeper the grief, the fewer the words. there are long-term things we need to deal with to prevent this from happening again but right now we need to console those who are grieving. as a pastor, i deal with grief every day of my life and i have discovered that grief is actually a good thing. it is the way we make transitions in the losses of life. jesus said blessed are those who mourn they shall be comforted. if we stuff our grief what i figured out is that it comes out sideways later on in some strange ways and so part of the healing process is actually dealing with the grief and the way we help people in grief is just be with them. y

of snow in some areas, especially back into ohio, pennsylvania and new york state. granby, connecticut, picked up six inches before it changed over to rain. we saw winds gusting up near hurricane-force strength in brick, new jersey. 74-mile-per-hour wind gusts. most of the eastern seaboard did see gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour. this storm is still lingering across northern new england where winter storm warnings and advisories are still in effect. heaviest of the snow, though, is where they want it, up across the ski resorts through northern new york, up into vermont, new hampshire and eventually maine as well. it's the extreme northern tier of the country that could end up with more than two feet of snow. elsewhere in new england, we'll get another foot of snow in central and northern new england. rain will wind down later today and then tomorrow as we head into friday, it looks like things will finally improve. a little chilly, but the sunshine is back. temperatures tomorrow should top out in the mid to upper 30s. so improvements, they're slow to get here, but they'll still ge
